Seishun 18 kippu (青春18切符) 2007-2008 Winter

The Japan Railways Group has just announced a Seishun 18 Kippu special for the upcoming Winter 2007-2008 season. The special-deal Seishun 18 Kippu will be offered at 11,500yen, five (5) days of unlimited travel on any JR futsu (regular) and kaisoku (rapid) trains along with a very small number of exceptions permitting travels on express trains (e.g., between Kanita and Kikonai sandwiching the Seikan Undersea Tunnel).

For the Winter season, you can buy the Seishun 18 Kippu between 1st December 2007 and 10th January 2008, and the pass can be used between 10th December 2007 and 20th January 2008 (last day of travel with Seishun 18 Kippu).

This is about the cheapest way to travel for five days in Japan that I have ever heard of, short of hitchhiking and/or walking. Granted that it can be tiring to travel far on a futsu or even a rapid train, but at only 2,300 yen per day, you don't even have to go the distance to make it worthwhile.

Seishun 18 kippu special offer Spring 2007

The Japan Railways Group has just announced a Seishun 18 Kippu special for the upcoming Spring 2007 season. To commemorate the 20th anniversary of the inauguration of the JR system (before that, it was the Japanese National Railways), the special-deal Seishun 18 Kippu will be offered at 8,000 yen (regular price: 10,500 yen), allowing, just like the regularly-priced Seishun 18 Kippu, five (5) days of unlimited travel on any JR futsu (regular) and kaisoku (rapid) trains along with a very small number of exceptions permitting travels on express trains (e.g., between Kanita and Kikonai sandwiching the Seikan Undersea Tunnel).

For the Spring season, you can buy the special-priced Seishun 18 Kippu between February 20 and March 31, and the pass can be used between March 1 and April 10 (last day of travel with Seishun 18 Kippu).

This is about the cheapest way to travel for five days in Japan that I have ever heard of, short of hitchhiking and/or walking. Granted that it can be tiring to travel far on a futsu or even a rapid train, but at only 1,600 yen per day, you don't even have to go the distance to make it worthwhile.

Western Union

If your wallet was stolen, what are you going to do? Ask your parents for sending money through Western Union? I know that is the best way to get money, suppoused to be fast and easy.
But there is a few western union agent in Japan, which is called Suruga Bank. They don't have branch in Fukuoka. Closest branch is Nagoya branch. If you have JR pass, it is not so big problem, but if it is not, you got a trouble.
There is 1 good option, if someone who is your friend or parents in your country has PayPal account, they could send it to someone who live in Japan. And then cash it out.
I think this is the easieset, fastest, and cheapest.

Credit Card works in Japan?

This is very strange thing, Most ATM machines don't accept international credit card in Japan.
Of course, you can buy the goods by credit card, but it doesn't work for cash out.
Why? I don't know !!!
But the only one place accepted for cash out is POST OFFICE.
There are many many post office throughout Japan, so it helps your travel.
Also from June 2007, Seven Bank would be accepted international credit card and bank card.
They will accept VISA, MASTER, AMEX, PLUS, Cirrus.
This is very good news for traveler.
Seven Bank ATM machine is installed in most of Seven Eleven convenience store.
