You'll see a lof of beautiful and magnificent Hikiyama carried by energetic Japanese men!!!! Hikiyama is a huge wood-made decoration specially created for the festival. They are covered with hundreds of Japanese papers called "Washi" and decorated with many paper lanterns. The men carry the Hikiyama on their shoulders and dash with rythmical music, loudly shouting "Enya!! Enya!!"
This festival lasts 3 days:
The first day -- From 7:30 am to 10:00 pm
14 Hikiyama are carried around each town and finally carried to Karatsu Shrine.
The second day -- From 9:30 am to 4:30 pm
With the portable shrine of Karatsu Shrine, the Hikiyama are floated to each town again and to Nishinohama, which is a beach side.
The last day -- From 10:30 to 4:30 pm
