Kyokusui-no-en Festival
The annual purification ceremony has its origins in the Heian period.Participants in ceremonial court robes sit along the stream and compose waka poems before lacquered cups of sake set afloat on the stream reach them. When the cups reach them, they must hand over the poem to an attendant and drink the cup.
