Tamaseseri (Ball Catching Festival) @ Hakozaki Shrine, January 3rd 2013

One of the most famous festivals in Fukuoka on the New Year at Hakozaki Shrine!!
Men are divided into two groups and they compete for an 8-kg-treasure ball
which is believed to bring good fortune upon the persons who can lift it over his head.
During the competition, they are splashed with cold water and spectators are also soaked because it’s believed that only touching the ball bring good luck as well so that they struggled to reach the ball.

Venue: Hakozaki Shrine
Start: 3rd of January from 1pm
Access:
Take a JR train from Hakata station to Hakozaki staion (200yen, 5min)
Or, take subway from Hakata station to Hakozaki-Miyamae station (250yen 15min)
Transfer at Nakasu-Kawabata station is necessary.
