Atago Shrine Fire Festival, Dec. 5th

The biggest event of the year at Atago Shrine. By walking on burning coals in your bare feet, you can purify your misfortune. The festival is from 10:30am to 1:00pm. Access to Atago Shrine 8min walk from subway Muromi station.

Van GOGH @Kyushu National Museum, 2011 Jan. 1st – Feb. 13th

Van GOGH ~The Adventure of being an artist~ 2010 is memorial year for Vincent Van Goch (1853-1890) as it is 120th anniversary after his death. Hakata Odori Dance, Dec. 3rd and 4th

Fukuoka is well-known as a famous city for its performing artists. Hakata Odori is one of the traditional crafts in Hakata but not so many artists to perform this traditional dance these days. Don’t miss this rare chance!! There are 2 shows in a day at Hakata-za Theater. Hakata Dolls exhibition, Nov. 29 – Dec. 5th

Hakata Doll is a traditional craft in Hakata, Fukuoka. This exhibition is for next year’s animal symbol, “rabbits”. More than a hundred of dolls are displayed at Takumi gallery in Acros Fukuoka. No entrance fee, open from 10am to 6pm(to 4pm on the last day). Access : 5min walk from Tenjin subway station.

Chagall and the Russian Avent-garde, until Jan.10th 2011 @Fukuoka Art Museum

Do you like Art? Here is a great exhibition for you! Daimyo district

Daimyo is located in Tenjin. It’s a popular area for young people to look for clothes. There are many many second hand shops as well as Adidas, Puma and Nike shops, ethnic clothes, accessories and so on. Aslo good restaurants and bars!! Koumyouzenji Temple (Located next to Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine)

This Temple is known as “Koke-dera” for its very curious moss coated garden which becomes full of red and yellow Japanese maples in Autumn. Through the quaint tea ceremony room, just relax and enjoy the view of Autumn.
