Kyushu Pro-Wrestling, Dec. 23rd

Based on Fukuoka, the pro-wrestling group, Kyushu Pro-Wrestling, is holding an event at Bayside Place Hakata. This group works to make Fukuoka active!! A charity auction and talk show take place as well. Place : Bayside Place Hakata Time : 3pm – 5pm Fee : 1000yen Access Take bus no.99 from Hakata station bus stop A to Hakata Futo(Bayside Place), about 15min 220yen.

Oniyo Fire Festival @ Daizenji Temple, January 7th 2012

This annual festival was originated more than 1600 years ago and is one of the biggest fire festivals in Japan!! It’s held at Daizenji Temple in Kurume city, Fukuoka. The fire festival starts around 7pm, main part is from 9pm. After bell rings at 9pm, the fire is lit on a 13-meter-torch!!! Hakata’s Hidden Almanac: The Mikkaebisu Festival, Dec. 2nd & 3rd

This festival is held every year at Kushida Shrine. It’s a ceremony which people share  a meal with the divinities in supplication for commercial prosperity and a large catch. Ebisu god is known as the divinity for martial harmony in addition to that for success in business and fishing. The ritual meals are held every half-hour. (1500yen) Visitors can attend after a ritual purification ceremony at the Ebisu Kaikan. Those conducting the event dress in white ceremonial robes and carry in a large sea bream on their shoulders as if it were a portable shrine. They march around and through the visitors. Atago Shrine Fire Festival, Dec. 5th

The biggest event of the year at Atago Shrine. By walking on burning coals in your bare feet, you can purify your misfortune. The festival is from 10:30am to 1:00pm. Access to Atago Shrine 8min walk from subway Muromi station.

Hakata Odori Dance, Dec. 3rd and 4th

Fukuoka is well-known as a famous city for its performing artists. Hakata Odori is one of the traditional crafts in Hakata but not so many artists to perform this traditional dance these days.
