How to get to Kushida Shrine: Take a 30 minutes walk from Khaosan Fukuoka.
OR take a subway from Hakata station to Gion (2mins,100yen)+ 3 minutes walk.
OR take a bus #114 from Mizuho (just across the street from Khaosan Fukuoka) to Canal city Hakata (15mins, 180yen) + 1 minute walk.

Price: 1200yen (8tickets), 800yen (6tickets)

“Hakata Toumyou Watching” is a festival of lights in Hakata.
“Toumyou” is a traditional light in Japan.
You can enjoy the paper lanterns lighting up the various areas of Hakata.
More than 100,000 paper lanterns will light up streets, parks and temples in Hakata. Many artists also “paint” pictures as large as 260 feet(80 meters) in diameter on the ground with lanterns.
The festival will give you, your family&friends memorial romantic scenes!!
Let’s go and see “Hakata Toumyou Watching” festival!!!

Access: to Kushida Shrine
Take a walk from Hakata station Hakata gate side on Taihaku dori ave.
Take left where Taihaku and Kokutai street meet.(Where Gion sta.is)
The shrine is on your right hand side.(30mins)
Or, Take a subway from Hakata station to Gion station (1min,100yen)
The shrine is on your right hand side.

No need to worry even if you get drunk! Because it’s only 2 subway stations away from Hakata station!

Place: Kawabata arcade to Reisen park. There will be many posters to indicate you to the event.

How to get there: Take a subway from Hakata station to Nakasukawabata. (3mins,200yen) From Nakasukawabata station go through Kawabata shopping arcade. You won’t miss the crowds of people the droves of revelers!!

Open air festival “Rainbow 2012 ASO”

This 5-day camping music festival in Aso is a revival of a legendary Tokyo party. Around 10,000 flock to the Aso outdoor stage to dance all day and night. 10~25 bands each day, plus 35 DJs and VJs, organic food and goods stalls and more. Join the camping community and feel the love!

Date: October 4th (Thu.)~October 8th (Mon.)
Place: Aspecta Aso
Price: ¥5,000 (for 5 days)

Access: Take JR train to Kumamoto station and change to Houhi line at Tateno station, then get off at Nakamatsu station. (Approx 2.5-3hrs in total、Total 5510yen ) There is free shuttle bus from Nakamatsu station to the site.

The approach to the Sumiyoshi Shrine will be lined with unique stalls selling homewares, accessories, clothes and more! As you wander the markets, indulge in some tasty international treats at the food court, including booths by many of Fukuoka’s most popular international restaurants. The atmosphere will be set with free live acoustic performances by a traditional Nepalese band on an outdoor stage.

“yabusame”, a show of traditional Japanese archery on horseback on the 13th Sat. from 11:30

Access: 10 minutes by walk from Hakata station.
Or, take a bus #44 at Mizuho bus stop, the nearest bus stop from the hostel, and get off at Sumiyoshi bus stop. (15mins, 180yen) 2 minutes by walk to shrine.
