This festival is one of five major Fukuoka prefecture festivals. Decorated floats and mikoshi(a portable shrine) which contained a different god for each area are taken through the River to purify them. On May 21st, the main event stars from 3pm though the festival starts from 8am. Om May 22nd, the main event starts from 2pm and the festival ends at around 6:30pm. Let’s enjoy this historical dynamic festival and feel the Japanese festival atmosphere in Tagawa!! Access Take JR Fukuhoku Yutaka line train (most of them depart from the platform #8) from “Hakata” station and get off at “Nogata” station (about 1 hour, 910yen). Then, change to JR Ita line train and get off at “Tagawa Ita” station (about 30min, 440yen) About 5min walk from the station to the main venue.

Very interesting festival is held in Yanagawa Southern city in Fukuoka Prefecture. Yanagawa is famous for a city of water ways. Music and ceremonies are showed on a floating stage made from canal boats tied together at this festival. Enjoy looking around the stalls on the streets by the canal! Hakata Dontaku Festival is famous for a lot of parade show. Hakata Machiya Folk Museum offers you the chance to join Dontaku parade!!
